Editorial Wedding Photography | Film Noir

Black and white has a way of stripping everything down to what matters — light, shadow, emotion. This collection of editorial wedding photography captures that timeless essence: moments suspended between elegance and chaos, where every glance feels like a frame from an old film.

There’s something raw about it. No color to distract — just texture, breath, and feeling. The way a dress catches the light. The stillness before a kiss. The quiet power of contrast.

As a wedding photographer in the Algarve, I often return to monochrome when the story itself feels cinematic — when the scene asks for depth rather than brightness. These images aren’t about perfection; they’re about truth. A love story told in chiaroscuro.

My Signature Style – Inspired by the Masters

My work is a fusion of documentary photography and fashion editorials. Inspired by legends like Peter Lindbergh, Helmut Newton, and the raw aesthetics of Juergen Teller, I strive to capture moments that feel both timeless and modern. The contrast-heavy black and white portraits, the intentional film grain, and the carefully controlled imperfections create an emotional depth that traditional wedding photography often lacks.

The Influence of Film Photography in Luxury Weddings

One of the most defining elements of my style is the emulation of 35mm film and medium format photography. I often shoot with digital but process my images to reflect the richness of analog film. This means:

  • Natural grain for texture and character
  • High contrast monochrome for a cinematic touch
  • Deliberate blur and movement to evoke spontaneity
  • Front flash techniques that add a bold, editorial feel

My Approach – The Technical Side of Editorial Wedding Photography

While the aesthetic might seem effortless, every shot is carefully crafted. Some of my go-to settings for capturing this editorial wedding style include:

  • ISO: Often between 800 and 3200 to add natural grain and depth
  • Shutter speed: 1/125s to 1/250s for static portraits, but I go as low as 1/30s for intentional blur and movement
  • Aperture: Wide open (f/1.8 – f/2.8) for dreamy backgrounds and a soft, romantic feel
  • Flash: Direct on-camera flash (reminiscent of 90s paparazzi shots) for certain nighttime or dance-floor images
